EXO Lay, NCT 127 And Jason Derulo Pays Tribute to Michael Jackson in Funky "Let's Shut Up and Dance"


The perfect collaboration to honor Michael Jackson's outstanding legacy is here. EXO's Lay, NCT 127 and American Pop singer Jason Derulo have shocked the world with the release of the song "Let's Shut Up and Dance" on February 22nd. This is the first single of four from a special tribute album "The Greatest Dancer". The fusion of American pop music, K-pop and Mando-pop is a historical global collaboration, showcasing MJ's huge global presence.

Lay, NCT 127 and Jason Derulo have expressed their admiration for the legend Michael Jackson by including major Michael Jackson influences in both the song and dance. Mando-pop king Lay has stated that working with Jason Derulo has been "a great experience for me as he is such a global force in the world of hip-hop." NCT 127 also comments on their featuring of the song as an example of how music is a "global language." Derulo who has been in the music industry for over 10 years, compliments Lay and NCT 127's freshness they bring to the stage.


With the release of "Let's Shut Up & Dance" Lay posts on his official weibo stating; "paying tribute to the era's idols. Enjoying the music to the fullest. A collaboration to one's heart content."


To date (February 25th), the music video has garnered 3 million views 3 days after release according to Jason Derulo's official youtube account, not including views from 1theK due to release problems.

On the day of release, Lay and Let's Shut Up and Dance were found trending #1 and #2 on Melon search. Lay was also trending on twitter in the Philippines at #12. NCT 127 was able to sweep the trending topics in Malaysia alongside Let's Shut Up and Dance.





Jerry Greenberg, chairman of 769 Entertainment states that through the song "we can all come together in these challenging times and celebrate him (Michael Jackson), and to continue to keep his legacy alive for generations to come.” To which was done successfully through this collaboration.

I bet y'all didn't see the behind-the-scenes video - it was all about J.Derulo. IMO, western artists are using kpop clout to add to their own. "Yeah, we're collaborating - but like all American movies, only US can save the world!
